In September of 1998, I saw the movie “A River Wild” in which Merl Streep has a beautiful rowing segment on the Charles River in Boston.  She leaves Boston and rowing behind to take her son on a whitewater rafting trip in the Rockies in an exciting movie, but the rowing caught my eye.  I looked on the Internet and found that “you can learn to row in 5 minutes and spend the rest of your life trying to do it right.”  I said to myself, “I play golf; I can do that.”  With the support of my mom, I started rowing and have never looked back.
